The Honourable Minister of
Communications and Digital Economy, who doubles as the Chief ICT Policy Maker of Nigeria, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has vowed to
work 100% round the clock to address other challenges facing the ICT Sector
while in office, following the recent success recorded in addressing the
Right of Way (RoW) Challenges that the country has been battling with for years
in which the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have agreed to honour the 2013
resolution reached by the National Economic Council (NEC) of N145 per linear
meter of fibre.
Pantami made his stand
known today while addressing the top Management team of Phase3 Telecom Ltd who
paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry’s Corporate Headquarters, Abuja.
The Minister also
reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improve broadband penetration
across Nigeria and also bridge the access gap hampering internet connectivity,
asserting that, “the Federal Government means business. Our target is to ensure
we achieve a minimum of 70% broadband penetration by the year 2025”.
Earlier in his remarks,
the Chairman, Phase3 Telecom Ltd, Mr Stanley Jegede commended the Honourable
Minister for his wisdom in redirecting the focus of the Ministry to promote a
digital economy for digital Nigeria.
The Chairman also used the
opportunity to introduce the board and top management staff of the company to
the Honourable Minister.
