The signing of an MoU on Digital Literacy Skills between the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria & the International Business Machines (IBM) West Africa has taken place at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, IBM Country General Manager, Mr. Oladipo Faulkner said that the IBM Digital – Nation Africa program will enable students, entrepreneurs, communities and professional with the knowledge and tools to innovate, design, develop, launch their own digital solutions or find jobs.
The Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Pantami welcome the initiative of IBM as it falls in line with the Ministry’s 8 pillars especially Digital Society and Emerging Technologies.
He said the policy is conceptualised “to encourage start-ups to support our innovators, so they can deploy their inventions in Nigeria.”
In this context, the Minister envisioned that Nigeria will explore in quantifiable terms, cloud computing, nanotechnology, Fifth Generation (5G) communications, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics.
Pantami thanked IBM for extending it’s hand of fellowship to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy as he said that Digital Literacy and Skills Development are key in driving a Digital Economy for a Digital Nigeria.
The free online training programme will kick start by February 2020.
